Research at Unicamp

Unicamp stands out as one of the leading research universities in Latin America, responsible for 6,9% of the national scientific output. Its research structure comprises 24 teaching, research, and extension units, 23 interdisciplinary research centers and nuclei, 38 major thematic centers, and 4 large multi-user equipment centers linked to programs of FAPESP, CNPq, and EMBRAPII, in addition to dozens of state-of-the-art laboratories that offer excellent infrastructure for the development of research in all areas of knowledge.

The University brings together 712 research groups registered with CNPq, working in 2.001 research areas and connected to a network of 399 partner institutions, both national and international, consolidating a highly collaborative environment with strong global reach.

Its human capital consists of 1.813 faculty members, 92 researchers, 1.087 collaborating and visiting researchers, and 1.522 postdoctoral fellows, supported by highly specialized technical teams. 99% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees or higher qualifications, and 220 faculty members and researchers are recipients of CNPq research productivity grants, demonstrating the high standard of qualification and academic excellence of the University.

The ability to raise funds for research reinforces the confidence of major funding agencies and institutions in the quality of research conducted at Unicamp. In 2024, R$ 664 million was raised from public and private, national and international organizations, earmarked for funding research, technological development, and innovation projects.

The University's scientific output maintains a consistent trajectory of growth, quality, and impact. In 2025, Unicamp published 6.413 scientific articles in indexed and peer-reviewed journals, of which 56,3% were in open access, expanding the dissemination and access to the knowledge produced.

Between 2021 and 2025, the University published 36.657 scientific papers, 40% of which were developed in international collaboration and 3,2% in partnership with industry, demonstrating its broad integration into global research networks and its interaction with the productive sector. This output generated almost 500 citations, achieving an average of 13,6 citations per publication and an impact higher than the world average. During the same period, 9,4% of Unicamp's publications were among the 10% most cited in the world, while 27,2% were published in the top 10% of scientific journals with the highest international impact, confirming the relevance and excellence of the University's scientific output.
