Unicamp was recognized by the CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) with the Institutional Merit Award in the 22nd edition of the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Initiation Award. Of approximately 330 Brazilian institutions that hold CNPq IC grants, 42 submitted their reports and competed. The award was presented during the 77th Annual Meeting of the SBPC, held from July 13 to 19, 2025, at UFRPE, in Recife. Professor Ana Frattini, Provost of Research, represented the university at the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the institution.
In addition to recognizing the quality of research conducted by undergraduate research students and their advisors, the award is largely the result of the dedicated work of the team led by Mirian Marcançola, who has been responsible for the PIBIC and PIBITI programs for over 10 years, coordinated by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research (PRP) at Unicamp. With integrity and sensitivity, the team prepared the institutional report that demonstrated the impact of Unicamp's PI programs on the scientific and professional development of graduates.
With over 1000 active scholarships, 751 of which are from the CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), and a record number of applications in the last selection process (2007), the programs reflect Unicamp's commitment to quality education and research and the development of transformative science. As part of the award, the university will receive 20 additional CNPq scholarships this year.
This recognition reaffirms Unicamp's role as a national reference in the training of young researchers and in strengthening Brazilian science.
